Manchester United still can’t deploy their award-winning secret weapon this season

Manchester United have an attacking option still up their sleeve this season, they might need him the way things have currently been going.

The start to the season so far has not been the one that United fans would have hoped for. United currently sit 13th in the league on just six points after five games.

They also lost their Champions League opening fixture. They ran out 4-3 losers against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, although that scoreline certainly boded well for the Red Devils. Their overall performance was shocking.

A lot of the problems do lie in attack. The synergy between the front three just hasn’t looked right so far, no matter which combination of players has been tested. However, there is a player coming back soon who could shake everything up.

Amad Diallo yet to play this season

It’s easy to forget United have another attacking option who is slowly making a recovery, Amad Diallo could still have a big part to play in the 23/24 season.

The Ivorian winger was absolutely electric for Sunderland last season. He scored 14 goals and picked up four assists in 43 games for the Black Cats – who were absolutely gutted to see him go.

He even recently won a coveted award for his efforts. The ex-Sunderland forward Amad Diallo has won the PFA Vertu Motors Championship Fans’ Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 season.

Can he replicate this fine form in the Premier League? It’s worth a try when he’s back. The right-wing slot is so up in the air this year, with the Antony and Jadon Sancho problems.

Facundo Pellistri is also being given a shot – but we back Diallo as a better candidate once he’s back on his feet.

Amad can also play centrally, and his versatility could be a real asset, if he is given a run of regular games in the Premier League.

When is Amad back?

Here is the latest update we currently have on Diallo’s journey back to fitness.

Amad shared a picture via his Instagram stories of his injured knee, and included a short caption, which read: “Step by step.” This was on the 7th of September 2023.

He is pictured at Carrington wearing a United training top, and it’s clear he feels he is gradually moving closer towards a return.
