Manchester United are expecting offers for Wan-Bissaka, says Romano

Manchester United are expecting offers for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old has come off the bench in three of our four pre-season games but Diogo Dalot has started every game of Erik ten Hag’s tenure so far.

The Portugal international looks to be in control of the right-back spot at the moment and the £50m signing from Crystal Palace faces a tall order turning his Manchester United career around, judging by the early evidence of the Dutchman’s reign.

Unlike Dalot, bombing forward, being comfortable in possession and being a constant attacking outlet isn’t something that comes natural to our number 29.

Wan-Bissaka is far more comfortable sliding into tackles and defending one-v-one, but for a football purist like Ten Hag – that isn’t simply going to cut it at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace have shown an interest in re-signing their former academy product but they haven’t yet made an official bid.

Transfer guru Romano believes that if United do allow Wan-Bissaka to depart this summer, Ten Hag could look to reunite with Sergio Dest.

The 52-year-old managed the USA international during their time together at Ajax and the right-back could be available from Barcelona this summer.

“More recently, we’ve also seen some speculation involving Manchester United and the USA international, and my understanding is that they could be open to signing a new right-back at some point, but it will depend on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future,” Romano explained.

“At the moment Man United have not opened any talks for Dest. They are expecting offers for Wan-Bissaka – there had been contact with Crystal Palace but so far no official negotiations.”

Unlike Wan-Bissaka, Dest would pose a stern challenge for Dalot and with Ten Hag seemingly wanting two quality players in each position, a move for yet another player with Ajax connections could materialise this summer if ‘expected offers’ for Wan-Bissaka come to the fore.
