It’s mid-June and the promised flurry of transfer activity hasn’t quite happened for Manchester United so far.
Just one player has been signed, and no players sold. It’s frustrating.
It appears though that United are getting a little bit closer to reaching an agreement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Telegraph report yesterday afternoon: “Talks over a deal for the highly-rated Crystal Palace right-back are continuing.”
The report states United are considering cancelling the sell-on clause we have for Wilfried Zaha, which could be worth £10-20 million for Crystal Palace one day down the line.
Reputed journalist Sam Pilger reports United are ‘increasingly confident’ a deal is close.
Get it done and move on
It seems ridiculous at this point that Ed Woodward may be haggling over £10-20 million for Wan-Bissaka.
United need to pay the fee Crystal Palace are asking, and get the deal done.
It’s important because Paul Pogba’s comments put United under increasing pressure in the transfer market.
If he digs his heels in and makes his position further untenable, he will need to be sold, and replaced. United already need to sign midfielders after losing Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini in 2019.
Replacing Pogba would turn a re-modelling into a full-scale renovation.
United have so much to this summer that the club can’t afford to spend weeks haggling over a right-back.
Fortunately it appears like the Wan-Bissaka deal is getting closer.
