Manchester United has announced which shirt number Wout Weghorst will wear for the Red Devils following his loan move from Burnley.

The 30-year-old’s move to Old Trafford for the remainder of the season was confirmed on Friday night.

Following the termination of his season-long loan spell with Besiktas, for which the Turkish giants were paid a compensation fee, the 19-time Netherlands international has made the move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Due to not being registered as a new United player by noon on Friday, Weghorst wasn’t able to form part of the matchday squad that beat Manchester City 2-1 yesterday.

The twenty-time league champions have confirmed that Weghorst will wear the number 27 jersey during his time on M16.

Alex Telles was United’s most recent number 27 before the Brazilian joined Sevilla on a season-long loan in the summer.

Marouane Fellaini, Federico Macheda, Mikael Silvestre, Terry Cooke and Gary Neville have also previously donned the number 27 shirt for the Busby Babes.

There is no buy option inserted in Weghorst’s loan move to United from the Clarets.

From his 18 games with Besiktas, Weghorst scored nine goals and laid on four assists.

He made the switch to Turkey following Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League and he wanted to make the switch to ensure he kept his World Cup dream alive.

Weghorst scored twice at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with both of his goals coming in the Netherlands’ quarter-final defeat to eventual winners Argentina.

Weghorst moved to Turf Moor from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in January 2021, but he only managed two top-flight goals from 20 Premier League appearances.

After Anthony Martial was brought off at half-time during the Manchester derby win, Weghorst could make his debut for the Reds in Wednesday’s clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
