Manchester United announce signing of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord

Manchester United have announced the signing of Tyrell Malacia and the Netherlands international becomes Erik ten Hag’s first signing.

The left-back, who has been capped five times for his country arrives on a five-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months from Eredivisie giants Feyenoord.

The Dutch defender made 136 appearances for Feyenoord and helped the Rotterdam giants reach last season’s inaugural UEFA Conference League final before being beaten by Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

The 22-year-old will challenge Luke Shaw and Alex Telles to become the club’s first choice left-back under Ten Hag.

It looked like Malacia was heading for France with Ligue 1 giants Lyon, but Manchester United hijacked the deal and Ten Hag got the man who impressed him during his time in charge of Ajax.

Speaking to the club’s website about his move to Old Trafford, Malacia said: “It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager [Erik ten Hag] leading us.

“I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.

“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt. I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family.

“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them. Now I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.”
