Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has admitted it’s hard to enjoy his club football when the Reds aren’t winning and that’s a stark contrast to his international fortunes.
The 26-year-old has struggled to recapture the form he produced for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions at the European Championships last summer for the Red Devils this season.
The former Southampton man smashed home the opener in the Euros final against Italy and he scored England’s equaliser last night, as they came from behind to beat Switzerland 2-1 in a friendly at Wembley.
United’s number 23 has been in and out of the Red Devils side this season and he has admitted that there are differing environments for club and country.

Shaw told Sky Sports: “The environment here that Gareth creates, you always enjoy it.
“I think when I come here [to England], for me it’s about enjoyment, playing games with a smile on my face and enjoying it. I feel like here, when I come here I always do that, we all love playing for our country.
“When we’re here we just focus on what’s happening because my main focus is England at this time. I think everyone does. It’s always important to feel like you’re wanted.
“Especially here, I always feel that. I’m not saying I don’t at United but especially here, the way things are, I feel wanted, I enjoy my football. The big part of football is enjoyment.
“Of course, it’s hard to enjoy it when we’re losing and we’re not playing well at club level, we have to face that, this season it’s not been good enough at all it’s hard to enjoy, we’ve got a lot to improve on at the club but we’re here at England so it’s more focused on that.”

Hopefully the welcome distraction of being away with England proves the catalyst in Shaw having a strong end to the season under Ralf Rangnick.
After missing the last three games due to testing positive for Covid-19, Luke Shaw faces a battle reclaiming the Manchester United left-back spot from Alex Telles.
