Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, as they say, is quite the character.
From his air guitar celebrations to his champagne-swigging antics after that FA Cup final, the deadly Dane is not only a favourite amongst the fanbase, his infectious personality has also made him a big presence in the dressing room.
Harry Maguire, answering a series of posers about his Manchester United team-mates, not only feels that Rasmus Hojlund is the most likely to leave their passport at home before a flight, he is also the most obvious candidate to misplace the keys to his own front door while being the first to grab the mic at a karaoke night.
It feels rather fitting, then, that Christian Eriksen would use opt for ‘wild’ to describe Hojlund when asked to describe his fellow Denmark international in one word.
Man United’s rockstar number nine you would suspect, makes for pretty fun company at a club Christmas party.
Christian Eriksen describes his Manchester United team-mates
But, when asked by ESPN FC on TikTok, what words did Eriksen use to sum up his other Man United team-mates?
For Bruno Fernandes, it is his ‘football brain’ that stands out. For Marcus Rashford, the veteran playmaker highlighted his ‘technical’ ability.
Casemiro – unsurprisingly – had Eriksen immediately thinking about his limb-crunching ‘tackles’.
A mention of Antony – maybe through a shortage of other attributes – made the former Tottenham Hotspur ace recall of his signature ‘spinner’ move.
When asked about Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez, however, Eriksen’s answers felt particularly fitting. Mainoo, he says, is all about ‘talent’.
Martinez, meanwhile, is Man United’s barking, bone-chewing ‘bulldog’.
And how Erik ten Hag has missed him, guarding Man United’s backdoor and sinking his teeth into any striker who dares try and pick the lock. Martinez, after missing most of last season through injury, was back at his brilliant, beligerrant best during the nervy 1-0 opening day victory over Fulham last week.
Lisandro Martinez back to his best for Erik ten Hag
The aforementioned Maguire – equally impressive against Marco Silva’s side – is just glad he gets to play alongside the World Cup winner rather than against him when the weekend rolls around.
“Lisandro Martinez,” Maguire told Goal asked to name the most fearsome footballer he has ever come up against. “He can produce some naughty tackles in training!”
In his two seasons at Old Trafford, Manchester United kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League and then conceded 58 goals in 38 matches. Guess which one of those two campaigns Martinez was fully fit for?
“Lisandro Martinez likes to defend,” former Red Devil Dion Dublin told BBC Sport after a stand-in display at left-back during the Community Shield. “He is a horrible player to play against as a centre-forward.
“His aggression, he likes the physical contact. Man United don’t have any players of that ilk.”
Ten Hag, meanwhile, knows what Maguire means when he says Martinez makes for a rather terrifying opponent, even on the turf of Carrington.
Licha Martinez, when he is on the training pitch, he is always (on the) front foot. Always switched on,” Ten Hag told TNT Sports over the summer.
“He always wants to win, even in small games.”
