Manchester United paid a lot of money to sign Jadon Sancho and this looks to have been a very misguided expense.

Manchester United’s expensive move to sign Jadon Sancho in 2021 has so far turned out to be a colossal failure.

Sancho failed to replicate his impressive Borussia Dortmund form, struggling with the pace and intensity of the Premier League, and was unable to make a sustained impact.

The winger is now back on loan at Dortmund, with Manchester United hoping he will increase his transfer value again ahead of a potential sale.

Sancho did not start a single game for United this season, used as a substitute early on before falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.

Alejandro Garnacho v Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho might present Manchester United’s balance sheet with a big loss, but on the pitch, he has already been replaced.

And after his brace at the weekend in Manchester United’s win over West Ham, Alejandro Garnacho now has a superior record to Jadon Sancho.

Garnacho record is better than Sancho

Alejandro Garnacho has now matched Jadon Sancho’s goalscoring tally in 15 fewer appearances for Manchester United. He also has one more assist

Garnacho, 19, has managed to do this while averaging just 47 minutes per match, compared to 60 from Sancho. Last season in particular, the Argentina was regularly used as a starter.

This season Garnacho has scored seven goals so far, which on an individual basis, is higher than any one-season tally Sancho put together at Old Trafford, and he is well on course to hit double figures.

The youngster has come up via the club’s academy and established himself as a key player for the Red Devils.

In comparison to Sancho’s astronomical fee, Garnacho cost United less than £1 million to sign back in 2020 from Atletico Madrid.

Marca reported at the time how Dortmund wanted Garnacho but he chose Manchester United instead. And with Sancho now back at the German club, it is Manchester United who have the superior player/
