Manchester mayor hails ‘brilliant’ Ineos duo and speaks out on Old Trafford future

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has been discussing Ineos and their Manchester United and Old Trafford plans.

With the Ineos’ structure at Manchester United now being put in place, it’s a matter of time until big decisions begin to be made.

One of those decisions is the looming desire for improvements to be made at Old Trafford, whether that be a new stadium or an expansion and redevelopment.

Whatever the plan is, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham has revealed he’s in line to play a huge part, along with heaping praise onto the two key figures leading United’s revolution.

Speaking during his regular ‘hot seat phone in’ on BBC Radio Manchester, Burnham had a lot to say on the future of Old Trafford, and the club as a whole.

Speaking, Burnham began by admitting that he is in support of the clubs and will look to help where he can.

“All I am saying is, we are absolutely standing behind the club in saying whatever it is they want, we will facilitate. We will be there to make sure that the club is set up for the future.”

Continuing he admitted the potential Old Trafford has, before dropping an exciting claim that he is set to meet with Ineos next week but is in constant discussions.

“I think there is an exciting potential here, I am talking to the club. I may well be seeing them next week.”

Continuing, Burnham admitted his true feelings on Ineos’ two key men who are leading this new Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford.

“Sir Jim has really brought a lot of energy to the situation, Sir Dave Brailsford is a brilliant person and is the architect of British cycling success over the last couple of decades and the velodrome in Manchester — he was very much involved in the building of the velodrome and he is bringing that expertise now to Manchester United.”

His excitement to have this duo at United is a vastly different feeling we imagine, to working with the Glazer family. It is important to remember that Sir Jim aims to put ‘Manchester back into Manchester United’, working with the Mayor is a good start.
