Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has had a mixed time at Besiktas so far, and it has just taken a turn for the worse.
Eric Bailly was the defender Manchester United could not sell in the summer, and ultimately had to give him away for free.
In early September Bailly signed with Turkish side Besiktas, where he has made four league starts so far.
Bailly was substituted at half-time in Besiktas’ away defeat to Antalyaspor, and there has been a controversial fallout.
Burak Yilmaz slams Eric Bailly
In a post-match press conference, interim manager Burak Yilmaz made public his reason for hooking Bailly at half-time, making clear it was not injury related, which many had suspected due to the defender’s previous track record.
He claimed Bailly was involved in a bust-up with teammate Tayfur Bingol and said he would not stand for it.
Yilmaz told t24: “There was a problem with Eric Bailly during the half-time. That’s why I took him off.
“There is no injury situation. I took him out of the game due to an inappropriate move.”
What happens next for Bailly
Bailly has now apologised and wishes to move on. He sent a post via his Instagram stories.
It is unclear whether this will count against him for future selection.
Burak Yilmaz was not the manager who signed Bailly. That was Senol Gones, who resigned after a 3-2 defeat to Lugano in the Europa Conference League last month, in which Bailly scored the winner for the Swiss side with an own goal.
So it has not been going too well for Bailly, and this latest incident is going to be a big talking point in Turkey amid the fallout to this defeat.
Yilmaz is only the interim boss and does not expect to be in charge longer than a month, t24 report, which could end up giving Bailly yet another fresh start if a new coach comes in. He may need it.
Even amid Manchester United’s defensive injury crisis, there is no real reason to believe Bailly would be a solution had he stayed.
