Manchester United are still in the race for the Champions League spots this season – but they’re falling further and further behind Aston Vila and Tottenham.

Three points were snatched away from Erik ten Hag‘s grasp against Brentford, with Mason Mount‘s first-ever goal as a Manchester United player cancelled out by a Kristoffer Ajer strike just three minutes later.

Bad news for the Red Devils, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa securing victories over the weekend.

This now means Manchester United are playing serious catch-up.

How do Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham rank currently?

As it stands in the Premier League table, this is how it looks regarding the battle for fourth spot. It’s worth nothing Manchester United and Tottenham have played 29 games, whilst Villa have played 30.

Our view: Will Manchester United get a Champions League spot?

It isn’t looking good, but the good news is that Ten Hag has the advantage in regard to fixtures. Both Tottenham and Villa on average both have much harder run-ins.

United play both sides sat 19th and 20th soon, which (should) hopefully be six big points. If United can get past Chelsea and Liverpool with at least four points on the board – there is still a chance at a Champions League spot, particularly if fifth place can obtain a spot.
