Man Utd warned Elliot Anderson could cost £140m, Teddy Sheringham prefers another Premier League star

Manchester United are refusing to enter a bidding war for Elliot Anderson after his price soared well past £100 million.

News this week confirmed that Manchester City have bid £121 million for Elliot Anderson – a price that Manchester United are simply not willing to match.

United still want Anderson, but Ineos are ready to walk away if the Nottingham Forest star doesn’t signal that he wants an Old Trafford move.

Any move for Elliot Anderson would require United to smash their transfer record, currently set by the £89 million paid for Paul Pogba in 2016.

Teddy Sheringham expects Elliot Anderson to cost £140m

United don’t want to pay more than £100 million for Anderson, and former Red Devils striker Teddy Sheringham believes it is going to cost as much as £140 million to get a deal over the line.

In an interview with football betting site BOYLE Sports, Sheringham said: “Everyone already knows how good Elliot Anderson is. I think Evangelos Marinakis knows how good he is too.

“He’s playing for Nottingham Forest, and he could be starting for England. That’s unusual these days. And he’s doing very well in that position too.

“He is a top talent and you think about the offer Tottenham Hotspur made to sign Morgan Gibbs-White. It was about £50 million. Maybe a bit more. I’d put Anderson above that. You’re already talking £80 million for a player that Marinakis doesn’t want to sell, so that’s £100 million to get him to the table. You might get it done for £120 million.

“But you’re Manchester United, so Marinakis is going to want £140 million, and then he might consider selling his best player. It’s going to take silly money to get him out of Forest this summer.”

Teddy Sheringham wants Man Utd to sign Adam Wharton

With a deal for Anderson looking unrealistic, Sheringham would prefer United to target another Premier League star in the shape of Adam Wharton.

“Adam Wharton missing out on the World Cup makes it a good time for Manchester United to get that deal done,” Sheringham said.

“I think Elliot Anderson is the better player, but I do like the both of them. They’re both very comfortable on the ball and maybe you’ll struggle to get Anderson away from Evangelos Marinakis.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Elliot Anderson going to Manchester United, but Anderson or Wharton would be a very good acquisition.”
