Man Utd star named Player of the Month after summer transfer, he is ‘excited’ for his first Manchester derby

August was a difficult month for Manchester United, but it provided a platform for one new signing to give a good impression.

Manchester United have won just one of their first four games of the 2025/26 season.

Ruben Amorim is trying to turn things around at Old Trafford, but there haven’t been enough positives yet, apart from United’s 3-2 win over Burnley before the September international break.

United fans will hope for better results in the months ahead, although August did give the head coach a greater idea of what he can expect from his new signings.

Five players joined United this summer, and one of them has been quick to claim a Player of the Month award.

Bryan Mbeumo named Man Utd Player of the Month

One player that stood out despite United’s slow start was new signing Bryan Mbeumo.

United confirmed on Saturday that Mbeumo was named the August Player of the Month after collecting the majority of votes from fans.

Speaking to MUTV, Mbeumo said: “I am grateful because it comes from the fans. It’s always good to know that we have good support.”

Mbeumo is excited to maintain the levels he has shown so far, but he is also aiming to prove as he gets to know his new teammates better.

He added: “It’s important to improve and to get better the more time I spend here. That is what I want to do.”

Despite United’s poor results, the 26-year-old has shown signs that he is settling in quickly in his new surroundings, following a summer move from Brentford.

It is proof that Mbeumo is benefiting from having valuable Premier League experience ahead of his big move to Old Trafford.

Mbeumo excited for his first Manchester derby

A new month begins with a huge game for United as they travel to the Etihad Stadium for the 197th Manchester derby on Sunday.

It will be Mbeumo’s first Manchester derby, but he has played against Man City five times in the past as a Brentford player. He explained to club media that he is ‘really excited’ about the upcoming game.

“Of course, really excited,” Mbeumo said. “We are here to play in these kind of games, so I can’t wait.”

Although Mbeumo has yet to score against City, the Cameroon international has recorded two wins over Pep Guardiola’s side in the past. He will be aiming for three points again this weekend.
