Manchester United star Andre Onana revealed the “very important” reason why he can speak multiple languages after the Red Devils’ victory over Everton on Saturday.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford both found the back of the net from spot-kicks in Manchester United’s 2-0 Premier League win at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana notched up another clean sheet in the Premier League, with the United star firmly in the race for the Premier League Golden Glove this season.

The 27-year-old Cameroon international has kept eight clean sheets in the league and is currently tied with Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Manchester City’s Ederson.

Only David Raya has more clean sheets than the aforementioned trio, with the Arsenal star leading the Golden Glove race with nine clean sheets to his name.

Onana has seen an impressive turnaround in form this season after coming under heavy criticism following his £47.2m move from Inter Milan last summer.

Man Utd star Onana on languages he speaks

Andre Onana was criticised earlier this season after his inital mistakes, which included howlers during Manchester United’s Champions League campaign.

However, United manager Erik ten Hag has kept faith with the former Ajax and Inter Milan star and Onana has been solid between the sticks in the Premier League.

Onana had high expectations placed on his shoulders after his arrival at Old Trafford in 2023, with the Cameroon star replacing David de Gea between the sticks.

Speaking to MUTV after the Everton match, Onana admitted that he could speak four different languages and explained why it was important to him.

The United No 1 knows Spanish, Italian, English and French, with Onana admitting that he wants to be able to communicate with everyone in the Red Devils’ first team.

“I speak quite a lot, I think four. Spanish, Italian, English and French,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“Even if my English is 50/50, I try to do my best! It’s very important for me to be able to speak with every guy in the team.

“I speak in Spanish with Licha [Lisandro Martinez], for me it’s good, and when I speak with Rapha [Raphael Varane], I speak in French, sometimes I make mistakes and when I speak English I can say French words.”

Onana added: “I have so many languages in my mind and it’s something nice to be able to speak languages in the game.

“It’s great to play with these guys and I’m very proud to be here.”

Onana on his time at Old Trafford

Onana candidly admitted that he is “very happy” with the support that he has received from United fans after a “tough time” following his move to the club.

“There is more to come, much more to come, it has taken me seven months to feel good here in Manchester,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I am also very happy with the support of everyone because it was a tough time at the beginning.

“Now I am here, I receive a lot of support from the fans, from my teammates, from the club and now I am [feeling] better. I am very happy and I know the future will be brilliant.”
