The lack of European football also means that fans haven’t been able to go on any Euro away trips. Nobody at Old Trafford wants to be in the same situation this time next year. That means there is extra pressure on Carrick to deliver following a bright start.

Man Utd provide fans with free coach trip to Bournemouth
United fans have had to deal with multiple inconvenient fixture changes in the Premier League this season.
This often leads to travelling United fans requiring days off from work and, in some cases, accommodation due to a lack of public transport after late matches.
All of this adds to the cost of attending football matches for loyal fans, many of whom go home and away every week.
United have confirmed they will provide free return coach transport for fans from Manchester to Bournemouth when the Red Devils travel to the south coast on 20 March.
There are no public transport options available to take fans back to Manchester after the game, and it is United’s furthest away league game of the season, leading to a classy but rare gesture from the club.
United’s director of fan engagement, Rick McGagh, said: “We believe we have the best and loudest away following in the country and we wanted to do something for our fans to show we appreciate their dedication and support.
“When games are moved from a weekend to a Friday or Monday night, we know it impacts fans, meaning they often have to take time off work and face more expensive and greatly restricted travel options. We continue to work with our FAB and Fans’ Forum reps and share their concerns to broadcasters and the Premier League.
“We hope this gesture helps our fans travelling down to Bournemouth for the game, and, on behalf of the players and everyone at the club, we thank them for their continued support.”

Man Utd scored four against Bournemouth without winning
The last time United took on Bournemouth, the Cherries scored a late equaliser as the game finished 4-4.
Amad Diallo opened the scoring after 13 minutes. He was joined on the scoresheet by Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha.
United will be looking for revenge when they travel to Bournemouth in March by coming away from the game with three points.
