Jonny Evans’ first season as the loans and pathways manager at Manchester United has been widely successful, but one player could be recalled early for negative reasons.

Loaning young players has been something Manchester United have been pretty bad at over the past few years, but Jason Wilcox labelled Jonny Evans perfect for the role.

Most of the loans Evans sanctioned this season have been successful, with Harry Amass loving life at Sheffield Wednesday, while Radek Vitek shines at Bristol City.

But it hasn’t been a 100 per cent hit rate, and now one talented loanee could be set for a Carrington return this summer.

Elyh Harrison could be recalled by Manchester United

For all the success stories on the loan list this season, some youngsters have struggled to make themselves a success on loan.

Now, the Daily Mail has reported that Elyh Harrison is in this category for being recalled from his loan at Shrewsbury.

Harrison started the season as the first choice for the League Two side; however, since September 20th, he hasn’t played a single minute for the club.

Due to this underusage, conversations have been had over whether the loan needs to be cut short in January to either better position Harrison or give him the chance to compete with Altay Bayindir for the number two position.

Harrison was also recalled from his loan to Chester in January, although for very different reasons, as he was considered too good for the level in January 2025.

James Scanlon, Gabriele Biancheri, and Jacob Devaney are all considered for January loans

While Harrison might be returning from his loan, there could be a host of talented young players departing.

The Daily Mail reported this too, explaining that there have been EFL scouts at United’s Premier League 2 games this season.

James Scanlon is one player who is being tracked by scouts, having seen a loan to Scotland fail to transpire in the summer.

Additionally, United will be making decisions on Gabriele Biancheri, Jacob Devaney and Jayce Fitzgerald, who are all ready to step up a level for the Red Devils.

United in Focus revealed this week that Biancheri is a loan target for Sheffield Wednesday, which would be an excellent loan for the Welsh wonderkid.

Discussing potential loans with the Daily Mail, U21 boss Travis Binnion has admitted things are underway.

“Conversations are already taking place. We’re coming to a nice period now, with the international break to get together and discuss not only who might go out, but also how well the other ones are going.

“I think we’re all really happy with how the loans have done. We’ve got to reassess what’s right for them in January, and also the lads that are in the building: how do we get the next stage of their development right?”
