Former Manchester United player Lee Sharpe has praised Kobbie Mainoo for his instant impact in the first-team.

Kobbie Mainoo started his first Premier League start just last weekend and already has won himself praise from several Premier League icons and former players.

Ian Wright was one as he lauded Mainoo as he admitted the 18-year-old was ‘so impressive’. This sentiment was shared by Roy Keane who also waxed lyrical about the young England midfielder.

Now, another former Manchester United and title-winning midfielder, Lee Sharpe has shared his verdict on Old Trafford‘s latest hero.

Lee Sharpe raves over Kobbie Mainoo

Lee Sharpe was speaking to LiveScore recently and chose to single out Mainoo for praise.

He raved: “Mainoo doesn’t look like an 18-year-old who has just stepped into the team, because he’s unbelievably composed.”

Sharpe then continued his praise of Mainoo as he slammed United captain Bruno Fernandes.

“Maybe Bruno could learn a thing or two from him about not giving the ball away! He reads the game so well, pure natural ability.”

Sharpe then continued to argue that he’s shown enough to remain in the first-team.

“Mainoo needs to keep playing in the first team now. If he’s sent back to the Under-21s, it may hinder his progression.”

Mainoo has instantly become a key player

Many saw it coming after his preseason displays but since minute one against Everton, Mainoo has been ice-cold and that is exactly what the midfield has been missing.

With Casemiro, United can’t build out and evade the press which left us in heaps of trouble at times in the last year.

But under Mainoo – and this will only improve as he plays more – we look like we could play around teams and beat the press with ease.

In a dream world, Mainoo will have Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez to create triangles with and then we hope a new midfielder who compliments our homegrown gem.

Carrington has done it again, and this is only the beginning for Mainoo.
