Man Utd fans torn over Benjamin Sesko after £66m striker’s struggles continue, Ineos get called out

Manchester United spent big on Benjamin Sesko in the summer. At present he is going through a tough spell.

If you want to mount a defence of Benjamin Sesko, it’s quite easy to do so. He is a young striker adapting to a new team, in a new league, who has just returned from a knee injury.

With all the pressure of playing for a club of Manchester United’s stature, it should not be a surprise that he is struggling to show his best form.

And on the other hand, if there are fans who do not have patience with Sesko, that is also somewhat understandable.

United spent a staggering £66 million on the forward, and have seen him score just two goals in 16 games.

Sesko has an Expected Goals tally of 3.1. He has had 27 shots at goal in total.

At the same time he’s been a little unlucky lately, hitting the woodwork in each of the past two games.

Are you worried about Benjamin Sesko? Do you think he can turn this around quickly?

United fans split on Benjamin Sesko

Following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at home to Wolves, fans have been discussing Benjamin Sesko on United In Focus’ TalkingPoints platform.

There has been a real range of views, demonstrating the frustration with the Slovenian.

“Benjamin Sesko useless striker,” blasted one very unimpressed fan.

Another had some sympathy, writing: “Sesko is not getting good service, with the build-up way too slow.”

“With Amorim never will a forward get the proper service. Sesko poor guy had to fight to have sight of the ball,” another fan agreed.

“Sesko is still [a] young lad and he need to start all games to have more confidence in himself and become a clinical finisher in near future,” read another supportive message.

“What is happening to Sesko was exactly what was happening to Rasmus Hojlund,” another comment read.

A different poster pointed out that they see better signs with Sesko than they did with the Dane, now on loan at Napoli.

“Hojlund couldn’t get the chances and would go full matches without a shot, Sesko just needs that first goal since being out from injury and then he’ll be alright!”

Another wrote: “I have more faith in Sesko than I ever did with Hojlund. He seems more well-rounded and technically sound. Just needs some time.”

“I think Sesko is a great striker and that he just needs [to] be more confident,” wrote another.

Others were less than convinced, with one fan expressing his fears that the Slovenian lacks the right attributes to succeed.

“Sesko doesn’t have what it takes to be a top class forward. He needs to bulk up, and become ruthless. Man Utd have history when it comes to buying duds and this is just another to put in the reject bin!”

Another fan backed this view, pointing the finger at Ineos’ recruitment team for taking a risk on the former RB Leipzig forward.

“The scouting system needs to be looked at. £70m-£80m for Sesko is crazy. He has never been a prolific goal scorer.

“Only scored 48 goals in 4 seasons in so called lesser leagues. His reading of the game is non existent, he’s slow and useless in the air. Never was going to work.”

Who was Manchester United’s most DISAPPOINTING player vs Wolves?

Sesko one of two most disappointing players vs Wolves

United were unimaginative against Wolves, with Gary Neville claiming he could tell the team were off their game after just 30 seconds.

Sesko was one of the players who struggled. In our post-match poll, 24 per cent of fans voted him as the team’s most disappointing players.

He was not quite number one. Matheus Cunha landed 25 per cent of the votes, after failing to even get a shot on target.

Both players will still likely be back in the line-up against Leeds, where they have a chance to begin 2026 the right way.

Was that Matheus Cunha’s worst game so far for Manchester United?
