The feud between Lisandro Martinez and former Manchester United duo Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt remains a hot topic of conversation among fans.
Manchester United fans haven’t had many complaints since Saturday because Michael Carrick’s first game back as head coach ended in a 2-0 win over Man City.
It was the perfect response after United lost 2-1 against Brighton to crash out of the FA Cup third round, but Carrick knows that level of performance needs to be backed for the remainder of the season with 16 Premier League matches left to play.
There is no denying that the players reacted positively to Carrick’s temporary appointment, but more results like the Manchester derby could see the former midfield ace become a contender for the permanent position as head coach at Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick is off to the PERFECT START at Man Utd, and he wants more!
Why do you think it went SO RIGHT for Carrick against City?
Regrettably, the post-derby glow has been dimmed by persistent negative narratives surrounding the club.
Roy Keane has criticised Carrick’s coaching staff, while Lisandro Martinez has engaged in a war of words with ex-United duo Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes.

Man Utd fans respond to Lisandro Martinez feud with Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes
United fans have been giving their reactions to the war of words between Martinez, Butt and Scholes on our TalkingPoints platform.
One fan is so disappointed with Scholes and Butt that they showed willingness to confront the pair over mocking Martinez.
“Scholes and Butt showing childish behaviour and disrespect. It’s not like they have never seen Licha play before… shocking behaviour from stalwarts of United who know so little about the game as to be unable to coach. I’ll say it to your faces too … but won’t be offering a cuppa to either of you.”
Who are you backing in Paul Scholes and Lisandro Martinez’s war of words?
Paul Scholes and Lisandro Martinez have reignited their feud after the Manchester derby…
Another supporter thought the Class of ’92 duo would have apologised, but their reluctance to do so spread further disappointment.
“Scholes and Butt crossed a line with their personal insults. Instead of apologising, which I thought they would, the duo have doubled down. It’s disappointing to see, but feel Martinez has every right to defend himself against LAZY punditry.”
Another fan named Wayne weighed in with his view that former players like Butt and Scholes are becoming distractions for the current players.
“The ex-Man United players like Scholes and Butt have become unnecessary distractions for the current players in the team. They talk too much and tend to become over-critical in their analysis. They should try to support the manager and players as much as they can. Not castigate and criticize them too harshly in public. They can do that privately if at all.”
A further comment included Gary Neville, referring to his period in charge of Valencia, though he hasn’t said anything personal about the current United players.
“Isn’t it funny how these failed managers like Scholes and Neville know all the answers but could never do it themselves…great players but now becoming a bit of a joke..such a shame.”
Paul Scholes has history with Lisandro Martinez
Scholes revealed on the podcast that he exchanged messages with Martinez in the past because the World Cup-winner wasn’t happy about something that was said.
Martinez allegedly told Scholes that he had lost all respect for him, which the former England international decided to reveal this week.
“Look, we exchanged messages on Instagram quite some time ago,” Scholes said on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast.
“He wasn’t happy with something I said about him in the past. I can’t remember what it was. He said he’d lost all respect for me. I wouldn’t normally say this, but he’s come out and said stuff, so why not?”
