The defeat at Nottingham Forest still hurts for Manchester United fans.
It seems like a long time ago now on the 30th of December 2023 when Erik ten Hag‘s first-team squad were defeated by Nuno Espirito Santo’s revitalised Forest side.
Goals from Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White cancelled out a Marcus Rashford equaliser to give the home side the victory and end United’s calendar year with a bitter defeat.
Despite not scoring, former Red Devil Anthony Elanga also had a huge impact on the game. He was dangerous throughout, but it was his antics coming off the pitch which have now caused a divide between Manchester United supporters.
Manchester United fans annoyed at Anthony Elanga
As Elanga left the pitch in the clash with his former club, he was seen pointing to the Nottingham Forest badge on his shirt and smiling.
This has left Manchester United fans in a huff, with them indicating he’s disrespecting the club that ‘made him.’
One writes: ‘Many’s a better player has come through the academy, not made the cut and gone on elsewhere. But few have been this disrespectful to the club that gave them their education and first chance in the game.’
Another adds: ‘I’ve never seen a Utd Youth player be this disrespectful, he’s not a Red, he’s the type to join Liverpool.’
‘When he’s older and has been around the game long enough he’ll regret his behaviour towards the club that made him,’ says another.
Manchester United fans argue Anthony Elanga’s case
Despite some fan’s uproar, most are actually on Elanga’s side and believe he owns nothing to his time at Carrington.
A first says: ‘Disagree with this. He doesn’t owe much to the club as realistically under ETH he didn’t get any chances and he was hounded to leave by a lot of the fanbase.’
‘What is the problem with a Forest player pointing to the Forest badge as he walks past the Forest supporters?’ another says. ‘Especially bearing in mind he is getting a chance to shine at Forest when he never had that at United.’
Another adds: ‘He’s doing what Pogba couldn’t do, nor Lingard as an example. They talked a lot and danced a lot. he stayed quiet, kept grinding got a chance to shut us up. I have nothing but respect for that.’
