Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba has reportedly been banned from football for four years due to doping.

La Repubblica reported that the 30-year-old tested positive for testosterone after Juventus’s first game of the season against Udinese.

He was awarded the punishment of a four-year ban from football on Thursday the 29th of February by an anti-doping prosecutor’s office in Italy. Pogba, who turns 31 next month, will not be able to return to the pitch until he is almost 35.

The former Manchester United academy star was always destined to be in the headlines as a player – but no one ever thought in this circumstance.

Manchester United fans on Paul Pogba’s ban

Pogba, at one time in his career, was regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. His first spell at Juventus after leaving Old Trafford for the first time was electric.

He was included in the FIFA World XI at just 21 years old. He was destined for the stars. Now, his career seems to have ended. A grand shame.

Manchester United fans quickly flooded to X to express the same opinions on the French midfielder:

‘What a horrible waste of a career, he could have sat at the same table as Xavi, Zidane, Scholes, Gerrard, and Yaya Toure but he couldn’t take it seriously. As a United fan I’m gutted for how his career has ended,’ first writes.

A second says: ‘He had the talent of all the world in his feet, but the mindset of bad man.’

‘What a waste of talent!’ and ‘One of the most talented midfielders ever, wasted’ two more say.

‘He wasted a good career. I’m sad,’ another adds.

Mark Goldbridge capped it off with: ‘Sad about Pogba. So much potential to be a great.’

Paul Pogba will now go down in history for all the wrong reasons

Pogba has still had a good career, don’t get us wrong. A World Cup winner is by no means a failure.

But, his name will always now be associated with wasted potential. He could’ve been an all-time great, but instead, his attitude towards football got in the way. Sad to see.

So has Pogba played his last real game as a competitive football player? Who knows. A statement he’s released said he’s appealing the decision, but whether that’s overturned is a very different story.
