Manchester United fans have sent a clear-cut message about Amad Diallo after the player’s performance in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal during the pre-season tour.
Erik ten Hag’s men took the lead in the first half after Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring at the SoFi Stadium in California on Sunday.
However, Manchester United were dealt an early blow in the pre-season match after Rasmus Hojlund was forced to come off the pitch due to an injury.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side rallied back in the first half and Gabriel Jesus cancelled out Hojlund’s opener for United at the SoFi Stadium.
Gabriel Martinelli then broke the deadlock late in the second half and sealed the win for the Gunners, with Erik ten Hag’s side suffering their second defeat on the tour.
Despite Arsenal winning in regular playing time, the match went to a penalty shootout and United came out on top with a 4-3 scoreline on spot-kick efforts.
Diallo’s Man Utd performance vs Arsenal
The 2-1 defeat to Arsenal was Manchester United’s first match of the United States leg of the pre-season tour ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
United will face Real Betis next Thursday at the Snapdragon Stadium before their showdown with Liverpool at the Williams–Brice Stadium on 4th August.
Amad Diallo missed the opening match of the pre-season campaign last Monday, with United suffering a 1-0 defeat to Norwegian side Rosenborg.
However, the 22-year-old Ivorian winger started the match against Rangers last Saturday and Diallo made an impact against the Scottish side in the 2-0 win.
Diallo, who had a brief loan spell with Rangers, opened the scoring for United against the Scottish side at the Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland.
The Ivory Coast international returned to the starting XI for the Arsenal match at the SoFi Stadium and Diallo was deployed out on the right wing.
Diallo was lively throughout the first half and had his chance to add his name to the scoresheet, but the United star failed to find the back of the net.
The former Atalanta player was heavily involved in the attacking threat from United before he was taken off at half-time and replaced by Antony.
Man Utd fans react to Diallo vs Arsenal
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, made their feelings clear that they were impressed with Diallo’s attacking flair against Arsenal.
Red Devils supporters were disappointed with the showing from Antony after Erik ten Hag withdrew Diallo following his superb first-half showing.
United fans made it clear that they feel that Diallo is the first team’s best right winger and should be starting next season ahead of Antony and Jadon Sancho.
“The drop in quality from [Marcus] Rashford-Amad to [Jadon] Sancho-Antony is immeasurable,” one fan claimed.
Someone else argued: “Difference between Amad [and] Antony is stark. Amad is astronomically better.”
A third added: “LOL, it will be a disaster if Antony plays ahead of Amad this season.”
Another posted: “Diallo and [Alejandro] Garnacho are our best wingers. No questions asked. Amad Diallo is our best winger period. Complete player. Amazing dribbler, passer and decision maker. Levels above the rest.”
“Going from Amad ball to Antony should come with a warning,” a fifth said.
While a sixth tweeted: “Antony should be behind Amad, Garnacho and Sancho for that RW spot.”
Somebody else wrote: “Amad is a cheat code on the right.”
And an eighth simply stated: “Amad has to start for us at right wing this season.”
