Anderson admits he has been left disappointed by some of the negativity aimed at Michael Carrick by former Manchester United players.

Manchester United’s season improved drastically after Michael Carrick was appointed interim head coach.

United are on the verge of securing Champions League qualification, sitting third in the Premier League, but fans remain split over whether he is the right man for the job.

Although a decision hasn’t been made yet, United are likely to appoint Carrick permanently at the end of the season.

Anderson backs Michael Carrick at Man Utd

Anderson had no problems saying it saddens him to hear some of the negativity aimed at Carrick.

The former United midfielder, who spent seven and a half seasons at Old Trafford, isn’t talking about criticisms from pundits with no association to United.

Anderson has been disappointed by some of Carrick’s former teammates at United, who have been more critical than others.

He acknowledges that Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra have their hearts in the right place when it comes to United, before stressing that we – as a club – should get behind Carrick as head coach.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Anderson said: “Now it makes me sad when I see some players talk about Carrick.

“He’s an amazing guy. That guy is a classic guy. He needs your support. It doesn’t matter what, he has to have, because I know him. You know him. Evra know him. So many players that know him.

“Why it makes me sad? Because you always love Manchester. I love Manchester. You love Manchester. Evra loves Manchester as well.”

When asked if it disappoints him to see such negativity, Anderson said: “Yes. I’ll tell you why.

“10 (12*) years in the club. He won everything for the club.

“He had two opportunities at the club. He did very well the first time. The second time, he’s started by doing what the players need to do.

“Support him. Fight for him. It’s not fighting just for him, a fight for the club.”

Anderson named his dog Wes Brown

It was revealed during Ferdinand’s interview with Anderson that the Brazilian named his dog after Wes Brown.

Ferdinand recalls the story, and it prompts a laugh from Anderson.

They also discuss how, much to Ferdinand’s surprise, Anderson lasted so long at United.

Sir Alex Ferguson had a soft spot for Anderson.
