Key part of Ten Hag coaching staff now unlikely to leave Old Trafford for his first managerial job

Manchester United look set to avoid a departure from Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff with Eric Ramsay unlikely to move to Swansea City.

We have been through this once already this season.

Reports earlier in the campaign suggested that Ajax were pushing to make Ten Hag’s assistant Mitchell van der Gaag their new manager.

Van der Gaag ended up staying put but the success of former United coaches like Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna as managers means another part of Ten Hag’s coaching staff is being linked away.

Eric Ramsay likely to stay with Manchester United

Eric Ramsay is the man in question here having attracted managerial interest in the past.

The 31-year-old rejected the chance to manage Blackpool earlier this year, preferring to stay at Old Trafford.

BBC Sport reported a couple of days ago that Ramsay is a name in the mix for the Swansea City job after they sacked Michael Duff.

A lack of experience was noted as a potential stumbling block but Ramsay does have ties to the Swans.

Ramsay coached their Under-18’s between 2013 and 2016, aged just 21 at the time of his arrival.

Swansea had targeted Tottenham Hotspur coach Chris Davies but Spurs rejected the approach, leaving Ramsay as a potential alternative.

However, Wales Online now claim that the chances of Ramsay landing the Swansea job have been played down by ‘club sources’.

It looks like Ramsay will now stay at United – and Ten Hag will surely be happy with that.

Who is United coach Ramsay?

Ramsay worked at Swansea City and Shrewsbury Town before landing a big move to Chelsea, working alongside Andy Myers in their Under-23 setup.

Ramsay studied alongside the aforementioned McKenna and was subsequently recommended to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021.

Initially arriving as a set-piece coach, Ramsay is now an important part of Ten Hag’s staff at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old is thought to be an exciting young coach and even spent time working with the Welsh national team earlier this year.

Ramsay stepped back from that role in September with his full focus on United.

Ramsay’s time as a manager may well come down the line given that he is only 31, but it looks like Ten Hag can count on him for a while yet.
