Manchester United boss could effectively be an interim manager until the end of this season says Jamie Carragher.
With the arrival of Ineos at Old Trafford imminent and Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to watch his first game since acquiring his 25% stake this Sunday, the pressure will well and truly be on Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United have been on a woeful run of form this season which has seen the club lose 14 out of 29 games in all competitions.
At times, this has meant Ten Hag’s future at the club has appeared to be balancing on a knife edge. Decisions have also already been taken which seem to suggest that Ineos aren’t 100% behind the current boss – for example, Jadon Sancho‘s buy clause was refused.
But now, it’s been suggested that Ten Hag is effectively on a trial until the end of this season.
Jamie Carragher makes ‘interim’ claim over Erik ten Hag
Writing in his column for The Telegraph, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher had a pretty damning verdict on the United boss.
“He is effectively an interim coach until the end of the season.
Unless there is a significant upturn in results and performances, he will have to go.
“This is a natural consequence of significant boardroom upheaval. Wherever there is new investment at an elite football club, an instant review of every department follows – especially those that are malfunctioning.
“Ratcliffe will attend his first United game as a major shareholder this weekend asking himself this question: is this manager a symbol of the club I want to rebuild?”
While harsh Carragher has a point on the Manchester United boss
Carragher is known for his harsh reviews of United and the manager, and while this is no different in being a pretty big blow to Ten Hag, he has a point.
Ten Hag needs results to improve regardless of whether Ineos like him or not, they’re not going to hang around forever to see if results fall into place.
