Three years ago, Manchester United introduced an award in memory of and in tribute to the well-known supporter Ian Stirling.
The inaugural winner of the award was Ian Stirling after he passed away earlier in the year at the age of 57.
Manchester United chose to recognise Stirling’s tireless and selfless work on behalf of the millions of United fans, after playing a pivotal role on the Fans’ Forum and Fans’ Advisory Board alongside his work as ISLO for Manchester United Supporters’ Trust.
Sterling’s wife, Lynn and daughter, Lucy, accepted the inaugural award on his behalf. It was handed over by former chief executive officer Richard Arnold.

Man Utd reveal winner of 2025 Ian Stirling Fan Award
Thousands of Manchester United fans work hard to help fellow supporters out throughout the football season.
Sourcing tickets can prove tricky and expensive if you don’t have the right contacts, especially with the game becoming more costly for football fans.
However, without the hard work of Supporters’ Clubs throughout the world, it would be a lot more difficult for fans to attend matches.
In its third year, the Ian Stirling Fan Award goes to David Price, secretary of the official Plymouth Supporters’ Club.
Price has been secretary of the Plymouth Supporters’ Club for over 28 years, helping hundreds of fellow United supporters to travel across the country to follow the team home and away.
Brought up watching the Busby Babes, Price proudly took his award and told ManUtd.com: “Here we are today 70 years later. In the intervening period there have been many highs as well as lows supporting United.
“What has been constant over that time has been the incredible support that United has. I have seen the development of the supporters’ club grow from humble beginnings to the global network that we have today. Put on a red shirt and you are part of that community.”
Previous winners of the Ian Stirling Fan Award
It was only right that Ian Stirling was announced the winner in its inaugural year.
But, in its second year, the Fan Award went to Joe Glanville from United’s Malta Supporters’ Club.

The club received hundreds of fan nominations from supporters across the world, only for Glanville to be recognised for his efforts in helping fellow United fans.
Glanville is the core member of the Malta Supporters’ Club, United’s longest-running supporters’ club, which was set up 67 years ago.
After receiving the Ian Stirling Fan Award, Glanville told club media: “To know that I have been awarded the Ian Stirling Fan Award is a great honour. The late Ian Stirling was a great friend of mine and I always appreciated the great work he performed for the benefit of Manchester United fans. To put me in that category is unbelievable.
“I would like to thank both MUSC (Malta) for the nomination and the Board responsible for selecting me and for their appreciation for my work towards our great football club, Manchester United. This could not have been possible without the help of past and present Committees of our Supporters’ Club who always worked tirelessly to see our local Supporters’ Club reach a standard which nobody ever imagined. This is amazing!”
We would like to congratulate Price on his prestigious award.
