Manchester United will be reunited with a few familiar faces when they return to action against Fenerbahce.

The Red Devils will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce when they face Fenerbahce in Turkey on Thursday evening.

Erik ten Hag‘s side picked up a much-needed three points in the Premier League with a 2-1 comeback victory against Brentford and they are now aiming to get the Europa League campaign back on track.

Manchester United currently sit 21st in the Europa League table after consecutive draws with Twente and Porto.

Next up is a trip to face Fenerbahce where United will face former manager Jose Mourinho and former midfielder Fred.

Jose Mourinho wants ‘revenge’ on Manchester United

Mourinho spent two and a half years as United manager and won the Carabao Cup, Community Shield and Europa League – the competition he will now face his former side in.

He was sacked in December 2018 after a poor run of results, and has since taken a dig at the club by hinting that he was not allowed to be the coach.

With Ten Hag now under intense scrutiny as United boss, the “Special One” has the chance to pile the pressure on the Dutchman by extending his poor record in Europe.

Pundits Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer previewed United’s Thursday evening clash and warned the Red Devils that Mourinho will want “revenge”.

“Do you know who they are playing in the Europa League this week? A certain Fenerbahce managed by Jose Mourinho,” Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast.

“It’s in Turkey. It’s a big one. Jose will definitely want to win that one, a bit of revenge.

“He’ll be wound up,” Shearer added.

Erik ten Hag full of praise for Jose Mourinho

United fans know well that Mourinho can be the master of mind games and as soon as the Europa League draw was made and Fenerbahce’s name appeared, it was always going to be a dramatic reunion.

Ten Hag will know that his job is still on the line, but the Dutchman insists he is actually looking forward to facing his predecessor.

Ten Hag was full of praise for Mourinho before Thursday’s match, hailing him as a “winner” and an “example for many managers”.

It is bound to be a fiery atmosphere on Thursday night and there is a lot on the line for both teams – and both managers.
