Man United star named in WhoScored Champions League team of the week

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund may well be the only shining light on a dour few weeks for the Red Devils.

The club have lost six of their first 10 games in all competitions this season and the pressure is ramping up on the club and manager Erik ten Hag.

Rasmus Hojlund, who joined the club from Atalanta for £64 million, has certainly been Manchester United’s best player this season.

The Danish forward scored twice against Galatasaray including a mesmerising solo goal to give United the lead again but it wasn’t enough for the Red Devils as their frail defence led to the Turkish side grabbing all three points.

Hojlund rewarded for fine form

WhoScored have named Hojlund in their team of the week for matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League and that accolade for the 20-year-old is thoroughly deserved.

The forward was electric all night and has already become a fan favourite after his superb performances and also his admission that he was a United fan, prior to his big-money move to Old Trafford.

The huge fee that United set aside for the forward has certainly been a risk but that risk is paying dividends so far as Hojlund has proven his doubters wrong.

Erik ten Hag proven right

Ten Hag was, according to The Athletic, so keen on Hojlund and when the club suggested that United instead sign Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt, he refused as he wanted the 20-year-old.

That decision has certainly been justified so far as Hojlund seems a much better fit for the Premier League than the French forward, who struggled for PSG at St James’ Park against a rampant Newcastle United side.

Hojlund’s pace, physicality and finishing acumen has made him an ideal Premier League striker and he is set to grow from strength to strength in the North of England.
