Manchester United’s plans for Old Trafford have emerged as the consequences of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s rumoured 25% purchase of the club take shape.

Old Trafford has been a source of constant frustration for Manchester United legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gary Neville due to the poor state of the facilities at the club.

Well, their prayers may well finally be answered as Jim Ratcliffe is seemingly set to invest £1.25 billion to acquire 25% of the club.

The Glazers will remain in majority control of the club but Ratcliffe will be making all of the sporting decisions according to the Telegraph.

Old Trafford plans

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club will push ahead with plans to renovate the stadium which has been needed for over a decade now.

Old Trafford will not be one of the stadiums used for the European Championships in 2028 and this has caused a feeling of antipathy towards the supposed best stadium in Britain.

However, redevelopment of the ground could potentially revitalise the club and finally return the club to the best in Britain when it comes to the club’s facilities.

United to push forward with plans

After a stalemate in the sale process, it seemed like the plans for Old Trafford were put to the wayside as negotiations continued between the two parties.

United had, according to the report, effectively put their stadium plans on hold until there was clarity on the takeover situation, and that clarity now appears to have been gained.

It seems the preference from the powerbrokers at United is to renovate Old Trafford rather than build a brand-new stadium.

According to the same report, United were informed that the cost of rebuilding Old Trafford or building a new stadium is roughly similar, but there were concerns raised that a new stadium could become soulless within a certain period.
