Man United loanee named in Team of the Week after being ‘catalyst’ for his side

One of Manchester United’s most exciting young loan stars was among the best players in League One this week.

There are currently 18 Manchester United players on loan this season, including several exciting academy stars who are gathering crucial first-team experience.

Newly-appointed loan manager Jonny Evans will be keeping a keen eye on United’s loan stars, and there is plenty to like about Ethan Wheatley’s progress this season.

Wheatley was loaned out to Northampton Town in the summer, and he has immediately become a regular starter under manager Kevin Nolan.

This weekend, Wheatley was called “excellent” by Nolan after he scored in a 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers.

It was his second goal of the season in 13 appearances, and it has earned Wheatley a spot in the League One Team of the Week.

Via the EFL, Wheatley was among the top-rated players via WhoScored, amassing a rating of 8.3 out of 10.

In their description of his performance, Wheatley was praised for being the “catalyst” in Northampton’s win.

The Carrington graduate ended the game with two shots on target, a 100 percent success rate with three aerial duels won, and two turnovers in the final third.

Two Man United loanees are impressing

Wheatley is considered one of United’s most exciting young prospects, so his successful loan spell will be music to the ears of staff back in Carrington.

Last season, Wheatley struggled on loan at Walsall, but his success at Northampton has put him back on track to fulfil his lofty potential.

He is not the only young United loanee who will be knocking on Amorim’s door come the summer, as Radek Vitek is shining at Bristol City.

The young goalkeeper is taking the Championship by storm, and even with summer signing Senne Lammens making an impressive start in the first team, he will hope to break through at United next season.
