Manchester United feel vindicated in their decision to stick with Erik ten Hag following their poor first half of the season, according to reports.

There were calls to sack Erik ten Hag after Manchester United failed to get out of their Champions League group stage with the Red Devils failing to get out of a group that included Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

However, in recent weeks the Red Devils have won four of their last five games in all competitions and have seemingly propelled themselves with a slim chance of qualification to next season’s Champions League.

The two recent wins over Wolves and West Ham United have given fans hope of a resurgence and it seems the club are keen to show they stuck with the Dutchman.

United’s vindication

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, sources at Old Trafford have highlighted the patience that Arsenal have shown with Mikel Arteta as inspiration in their decision to stick with the Dutchman.

United reportedly view Ten Hag’s tenure at the club as a three-year project although the report states that people at the club ‘remain in the dark’ over what Ineos’ plans are for structural changes.

Omar Berrada has already been confirmed to be the new CEO of the club in the summer following his departure from Manchester City and he could have a big say on Ten Hag’s future.

A new sporting director is also set to be appointed and you wonder how this new structure will view Ten Hag’s future at the club after what has been a disappointing season.

How much more patience is required at United

The Red Devils are having a poor season but seemingly putting this down to a three-year project, considering how much they have spent since the Dutchman’s appointment, seems somewhat bizarre.

Last season, the Red Devils finished in a Champions League spot and won their first trophy in six years after beating Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

Arteta at Arsenal had a gradual progression up the division before their eventual title challenge last season.

Ten Hag’s side, however, have regressed hugely this season but if they can recover to finish in the top four, after the injuries they’ve had, would surely lead to Ten Hag being given a third season.
