It is quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover at Manchester United.

The Manchester United takeover saga finally concluded last December when it was announced that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos would take sporting control at Old Trafford.

It is far too early to judge the new ownership, but there have been plenty of promising signs that United are headed in the right direction.

After decades of Glazer negligence, Ratcliffe came on board at United and wasted no time making sweeping changes.

A new elite footballing department has been implemented with Omar Berrada as CEO and Dan Ashworth as sporting director.

Additionally, Ineos are also in the process of assessing stadium options with a new 100,000-capacity stadium being considered as a long-term project.

Life under Ineos at Manchester United

While there have been plenty of promising signs around Ineos and Ratcliffe, things haven’t been entirely smooth sailing at United under their ownership.

The behind-the-scenes changes are yet to translate to success on the pitch with United currently 12th in the table after suffering their worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Additionally, Ratcliffe controversially cut 250 jobs at Old Trafford in an attempt to cut costs at the club.

The cost-saving exercise even extended to Ratcliffe ending Sir Alex Ferguson’s payments – a hugely controversial move that “deeply divided” United’s fanbase.

Overall, there is a positive mood around the new ownership and the direction they are taking the club and former Nice star Aaron Ramsey has now given his insight into Ineos.

When the takeover was completed in December, United joined Ratcliffe’s portfolio of sporting investments which also includes French outfit Nice.

Ratcliffe took control of Nice in 2019 and former Arsenal and Juventus star Aaron Ramsey joined the Ligue 1 club in 2022 where he got to experience what it was like playing at a Ratcliffe-owned club.

Ramsey was speaking on Sky Sports on Monday and made a promising prediction about Ineos at United.

Speaking on Monday Night Football [21 October, 6:53pm] Ramsey said: “They came in, they wanted to invest a lot into Nice and make that a sort of hub in football.

“I think their ambition and Sir Jim as well, he has been a Manchester United fan and him having a chance then to own them, I think they will do an unbelievable job there, it just is going to take a bit of time.

“I think they are very driven people. They are only used to being the best at what they do. I spent a bit of time with them as well, in their company, it’s never easy in the Premier League to go and just challenge and compete again. With their ambition and ideas, I think they will have a successful spell there.”
