Manchester United fans have hailed the “stability” Sofyan Amrabat brings to his team, despite others criticising him for his “reckless” challenge in the Crystal Palace match on Saturday.

Amrabat made his first start for the Red Devils on Tuesday and impressed in United’s 3-0 win over Palace in the third round of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.

Signed as part of a season-long loan deal, Amrabat was deployed as a makeshift left-back in the Carabao Cup tie and earned rave reviews from United supporters.

United manager Erik ten Hag opted to play the Fiorentina loanee at left-back for Saturday’s Premier League clash due to an injury to full-back Sergio Reguilon.

Amrabat started off lively in the first half and was praised for his work ethic and relentless engine, covering the pitch and showing himself as a “serious player.”

However, the 27-year-old defensive midfielder was also criticised by some fans for committing a “dumb foul” which led to Palace’s first-half opener against United.

Happy United fans impressed with Amrabat

Amrabat’s foul allowed Eberechi Eze to fire a superb free-kick into the United box before the ball eventually found its way to Palace teammate Joachim Andersen.

Andersen then unleashed a stunning volley past a helpless Andre Onana, which allowed Roy Hodgson’s men to take a 1-0 lead into half-time at Old Trafford.

Despite Amrabat’s challenge, the Morocco international was praised for his work rate in his “free role” and for making a “night and day” difference to United’s first-half performance.

“Amrabat will soon cover Onana’s position as well,” one fan simply said.

Another added: “You can see the stability Amrabat brings.”

A third simply posted: “Amrabat is a serious player.”

While one fan wrote: “Amrabat is basically a false LB. I’ve never seen [an] LB roam this much. I don’t think City full-backs are this infield.”

“Amrabat in this free role is doing wonders for us,” a fifth tweeted.

Someone else commented: “The difference Amrabat makes is insane, night and day.”

And one X, AKA Twitter, user stated: “Because of Amrabat, we keep the ball better now! Great player.”

Unhappy United fans question Amrabat’s tackling

One fan wrote: “Bro, why did Amrabat foul him there? Quality finish regardless.”

“Amrabat, that was a dumb foul, man,” another tweeted.

Someone else added: “Crazy decision from Amrabat to tackle there.”

A fourth said: “Amrabat is so reckless […].”

While one X user posted: “Amrabat needs to calm down a bit.”
