Manchester United have shown the level of performance the team is capable of, going toe-to-toe with league leaders Liverpool.

Ruben Amorim knows he has a competent Manchester United team now. He simply needs to see some confidence and consistency.

After going to Manchester City and winning 2-1, United were unlucky not to beat Liverpool by the same score, having to settle for a 2-2 draw.

United should really have won the game, missing a late chance through Harry Maguire. But there were performances to be proud of all over the pitch.

Bruno Fernandes delivers top performance

One of the standout performances came from midfielder and captain Bruno Fernandes, who returned from suspension.

Fernandes provided the assist for Lisandro Martinez’s thumping opening goal, and was voted as United’s man of the match.

He has the respect of teammates past and present, as shown by the responses to his Instagram post.

Current teammate Luke Shaw, absent through injury, wrote a message that read: “You are so good.”

Anthony Elanga responded: “What a performance!”, while Juan Mata wrote: “Proud” and David de Gea hailed him as “Captain”.

These messages will mean a lot as one of Fernandes’ worst ever experiences came at Anfield, United’s 7-0 defeat at the stadium in 2023.

Fernandes missed the 0-0 draw at Anfield last season through suspension. This was his first game at the stadium since the horrific loss.

Fernandes proved his point

Bruno Fernandes delivered a measured performance for Manchester United at Anfield, in which he created four goalscoring chances.

He had 89 touches in total, working hard on both sides of the ball to ensure United came away from the game with at least a point, and really it should have been all three.

After the game Liverpool boss Arne Slot praised him as a ‘very, very good’ player, one who was hard to play against.

Fernandes has proved his point. He spoke after the game to label his display a ‘proper performance’ he was finally happy with. Now for more of the same.
