Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is looking to erase an unhappy streak during his time at the club.

Luke Shaw has made 294 appearances for Manchester United since joining the Red Devils in summer 2014.

He is Manchester United’s longest serving player, even though he has been overtaken in terms of appearances by Bruno Fernandes.

During Shaw’s time at the club, one particular stadium has been an unhappy hunting ground. He has never won at Anfield in a Manchester United shirt.

However, Shaw can still claim to have triumphed in an away win at Anfield.

When Luke Shaw won at Anfield

Manchester United last won at Anfield in 2016, with Wayne Rooney scoring the goal in a 1-0 victory under Louis van Gaal.

Luke Shaw was not part of the Manchester United squad in that game, with Matteo Darmian starting at left-back.

Shaw can boast he has one away win over Liverpool on his CV. He won there with Southampton way back in September 2013.

Just 17 at the time, Shaw played all 90 minutes for Mauricio Pochettino’s Southampton, with Dejan Lovren scoring the winner for the Saints – against a club who later signed him.

Shaw even came close to scoring in the 1-0 win, triumphing over a Liverpool side boasting Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

Manchester United signed Shaw the following summer for £27 million, and he has been unable to replicate his success there since.

He has played at Anfield five times with Manchester United, and failed to win any of them.

Luke Shaw bounced back since low point at Anfield

The low point for Luke Shaw at Anfield came in Manchester United’s humiliating 7-0 defeat at the stadium in March 2023.

Shaw was one of United’s worst players in the embarrassing defeat, which was a tall order considering just how bad the entire team was.

Shaw has started every single Premier League game for Manchester United this season, and has a strong chance to start the upcoming fixture.

While the defender missed the 2-2 draw at Anfield last season through injury, he has played at Anfield since the 7-0 loss.

Shaw helped United keep a clean sheet in December 2023, one of three occasions he has helped the Red Devils secure a 0-0 draw at Anfield.

There is another way to spin Shaw’s performances at Anfield, despite his lack of victories for Manchester United.

If you also factor in his win for Southampton, he has kept clean sheets in four out of seven career appearances at the stadium.
