Manchester United defender Luke Shaw and midfielder Donny van de Beek are currently on course to miss out on an opportunity against Real Sociedad on Thursday night.
Shaw and Van de Beek were both absent from Wednesday’s training session, Manchester World report.
England international Shaw was not in the squad against Leicester City a week ago due to injury, although he was on the bench against Arsenal.
Now it looks like he may have another setback. This fixture would have been an ideal situation for Shaw to start and stake a claim for his place at left-back.

Luke Shaw and Donny van de Beek miss training
Shaw’s absence from training means it is unlikely he is passed match fit to start the Europa League fixture against Real Sociedad, although a quick return cannot be completely ruled out.
United are thin on options at left-back without him. Brandon Williams is also out injured and is not part of the Europa League squad in any case.
Tyrell Malacia is likely to start, although it would have been pragmatic to have rested the new signing after starting the last four games, with another one this Sunday.
Another player absent from the training session was Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman was not in the squad to face Arsenal, due to injury.
Now it looks like he is set to miss this fixture against Real Sociedad. It’s a blow for the £35 million midfielder, who has not started a single game yet this season.
United are expected to rotate the team, and Van de Beek would have stood a good chance of starting. He will have to continue to stay patient and wait for a chance when fit, perhaps later in the Europa League campaign.
Anthony Martial also missed the training session. Erik ten Hag told in his press conference that Martial is making progress in his recovery from injury, but he is not yet ready to rejoin the team.
Lisandro Martinez did return to training, after going off injured against Arsenal. He could be rested and saved for Sunday’s game with Crystal Palace.
