Luka Modric sends message to Manchester United star after win v Wolves

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has praised one Manchester United player following the Red Devils’ 4-3 win over Wolves.

Kobbie Mainoo netted late on for Manchester United in a bizarre 4-3 victory over Gary O’Neil’s Wolves at Molineux but the game really should have been out of sight.

In the first half, in particular, the Red Devils had countless chances but taking these chances opportunities when they come for the Red Devils has been a big issue for United this campaign and it continued to be their downfall.

One area of the team that looks to be a big positive at the moment is the midfield department with Mainoo playing alongside the returning Casemiro, who looked back to his best in Birmingham.

Modric on Casemiro

Following the frantic game against Wolves, Casemiro posted on his Instagram page a photo of him celebrating with his teammates and his former teammate at Real Madrid, Luka Modric, replied.

“Njega! Njega!” the midfielder wrote which translates from Croatian to: “Him! Him”.

The midfielder did look to be back to somewhere near his best, denying Wolves multiple counterattacking opportunities in the process.

Playing alongside Mainoo, who himself was brilliant, seemed to help the 31-year-old during the game as the teenager offered the energy and progressive passing ability that the former Madrid star simply could not offer to the team.

Part of the reason why the midfield pairing of Casemiro and Fred worked so well last season is because they complemented each other perfectly and you wonder if a similar pairing of the Brazilian alongside Mainoo could yield the same result.

Casemiro key for the remainder of the season

With the Brazilian’s absence from the team, Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been starting games alongside Mainoo and has struggled to make his mark on the division.

The hope will be that the Brazilian can stay fit for the remainder of this campaign because, despite the Red Devils being a long way off, if they can string a couple of victories together then they could be in contention for a Champions League spot.

Casemiro staying fit, however, will be key for the Red Devils to have any chance of making this a reality.
