Manchester United have been linked with a late move for Luka Jovic by AS, and the forward could excel alongside the Red Devils’ current crop.

At first glance, any player suddenly thrown into the mix at this late stage of the transfer window may be seen as a panic move. Yet Jovic’s ability in front of goal should not be understated.

While his £50million move (BBC) to Spain has not gone to plan thus far, his previous spell in Germany tells a different story.

Jovic scored 36 goals in 75 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt and he is still only 22.

If he arrived at United, Jovic would be competing with three of the brightest young attackers in the game. And that ‘friendly’ competition could be exactly what he needs to rediscover his best form.

United do not have an experienced talisman holding court. Instead they have a host of players with the raw potential to reach the very top.

Martial is United’s out-and-out striker but both Rashford and Greenwood could play there if required. Add Jovic to the mix and it would allow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to freshen things up week in, week out without losing quality.

The next generation

At Real, Jovic is competing with the likes of Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard. But at United it would players who are hoping to one day take their mantle as among the best in the world.

Solskjaer knows a thing or two about scoring goals and he could take Jovic under his wing. It worked wonders with Martial and the Serbian international could be reborn under the United boss.

Rashford was overused last season while Greenwood is still a teenager. Having Jovic as an additional target man, allowing Martial to cover out wide when necessary, makes a whole lot of sense,

Putting four of the best young goal-scorers in Europe on one training field is also an intriguing prospect. It could be the fuel Jovic needs get the fire burning once more.
