Looking back at Rio Ferdinand's comments on Jadon Sancho

Reports in The Mail linking Rio Ferdinand with a sporting director job at Old Trafford have caused quite a stir.
Ferdinand has no experience in a role, but just perhaps, he could help United land one of world football’s hottest properties.
Jadon Sancho has been linked with a move to Manchester United all year. The Telegraph was one of many reputable outlets claiming United want to sign the winger who Borussia Dortmund value at £100 million.

Ferdinand, if appointed, could prove a key figure in getting a deal done.
Sancho like Ferdinand was born in South London, and has taken his own route to get to the top.
Ferdinand has already said he would love to see Sancho at Old Trafford. Bringing him on board could be among his first orders of business.
The ex-Red Devils defender told
Goal: “I would take him [at United] all day. English, young, hungry and talented, that’s all I need to know.

“I’ve known Jadon since he was a kid, through friends. He has got the mentality. The mentality is a big part of it whether he has the physical attributes or not.

“So if someone asked me whether I would take Jadon Sancho, with all due respect to Borussia Dortmund, I would say yes, 100 per cent.”

As The Mail reported, Sancho retweeted a link to this interview, in which Ferdinand backed a potential Old Trafford switch.
That showed Sancho’s respect for Ferdinand’s opinion, whether a United move appeals or not.
If Ferdinand was handed a surprise director of football role at United, he would need to make a splash to win fans over.

He at least stands a decent chance of landing Sancho, and that would be the perfect start.
