Manchester City have broken a record long-held by Manchester United after their tight 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United picking up a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, Pep Guardiola’s title holders have picked up a record of their own.
Goals from Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez were enough to fend off Roberto De Zerbi’s side and that win means they have broken the record for the amount of home wins in a row in the Premier League.
United achieved 20 home wins in a row during the title-winning season in 2010/2011.
The two Manchester sides are set to do battle next Sunday in what will be an incredibly tough game.

Man United’s record broken
The Blues stretched their tally to 21 matches to beat the previous record set by United.
City’s last defeat on home soil came in the 2-1 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League last November.
United’s 20-game unbeaten home run was, unsurprisingly, during the fantastic Sir Alex Ferguson days. However, United’s recent home record under Ten Hag is certainly a reason for optimism.
City, who themselves were in a rut, responded to their two successive league defeats to Arsenal and Wolves – both away – with a nervy win over Brighton.
United against City
The Manchester Derby last season at Old Trafford may well have been the peak of Ten Hag’s first season at the club.
The late goal from Marcus Rashford, having been a goal down, won United the game and there was genuine optimism that the Red Devils could be the third side ready to enter the title race.
However, nearly a year on, the Red Devils are in eighth place in the Premier League and are far away from entering the title race.
The hope will be that, however, the Manchester derby at Old Trafford can have the same impact on the team morale that last season’s win over Guardiola’s side did.
