Lisandro Martinez nearly scored outrageous overhead kick

Martinez has only scored three goals in his United career, and only scored once in his Argentina career back in the 2024 Copa America tournament.

The 28-year-old centre-back nearly doubled his Argentina goal tally on Sunday with an outrageous effort against Honduras.

In injury time in the first half, Martinez found space from an Argentina corner and attempted an overhead kick from range.

He connected well with his shot, and goalkeeper Endrick Menjivar was struggling to backpedal and save it. However, Martinez’s effort just sailed over the bar and landed on the roof of the goal.

It would have easily been Martinez’s best goal of his career, and one to savour heading into the World Cup.
