Lisandro Martinez has tipped Alejandro Garnacho to go all the way to the top after a breakout year for the Manchester United teenager this season.

Speaking to TyC Sports, the 25-year-old defender lauded his Argentine international teammate following a sensational debut campaign for United, with the 18-year-old winger making 27 appearances in all competitions for Erik Ten Hag’s side, scoring four goals and assisting another five.

United are no strangers to producing wonderkids from the academy, with Ten Hag the perfect modern-day coach to nurture these sort of talents as they make the leap from youth football to the senior game. And for Martinez, Garnacho has all the qualities both on and off the pitch to go far.

The former Ajax superstar said when asked about Garnacho’s potential and his place in the United squad: “Garna is an excellent boy with a lot of personality as he is only 18-years-old and is starting in a very big team with a lot of pressure, you have to have personality, right?

“That’s what I like about him, whether he starts or he comes off and plays just 15 minutes, he always gives it his all. He also has a goal, he doesn’t respect it, it’s spicy to play. The truth is that it comes in handy, he has been taking good steps and is continuing to learning.”

Ten Hag’s work at Ajax always hinted towards the Dutch coach turning to United academy stars to deal with issues in the senior team, and the way Garnacho has taken to life alongside the likes of Martinez and other figures in the first-team shows that the excitement around the winger is more than justified.

As we know, Garnacho is only 18-years-old and at the very start of his footballing career, and with the attacker already impressing week-in week-out for United, there’s a good chance that the winger will go far in this game if he can continue his development and be willing to learn from the likes of Martinez.
