Lisandro Martinez thinks new Man Utd transfer target has ‘absolutely everything’

Manchester United’s latest transfer news will excite Lisandro Martinez as it involves his Argentina teammate Cristian Romero.

It emerged on Monday night that Manchester United are considering a move for Cristian Romero.

Romero is expected to leave Tottenham after a disappointing season in North London, which included a red card against United.

A move from Tottenham to United would see Romero link up with compatriot Lisandro Martinez. They’ve always had a close relationship in the Argentina national team.

A transfer involving United and Romero would be popular in many circles.

Paul Scholes said he’d welcome Romero at United, and Martinez would be quick to welcome the Spurs star to Old Trafford since they’re both in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Romero is expected to start alongside Martinez in the heart of Argentina’s defence at the World Cup, which means United will get to see them play together before formalising their interest in an apparent transfer.

When asked what makes Romero one of the best defenders in the world, Martinez told Clank via YouTube: “Wow! I think he has it all, he has absolutely everything.

“He’s got style, he’s got aerial ability, he’s ruthless, he plays the ball really well, he makes incredible through balls. That flick he does, yeah, looking the other way and doing a no-look. Yeah, yeah.

“The no-look, we always practised that pass together, no-look, together.”

It remains to be seen if there is any truth in the Romero to United links.

Man Utd’s history of defenders from Argentina

Gabriel Heinze was the first Argentine defender signed by United from Paris Saint-Germain in 2004.

The full-back went on to make 83 appearances for the club before leaving Old Trafford under a grey cloud in 2007.

In 2014, Marcos Rojo joined from Sporting CP in a £16m deal.
