Manchester United and Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez has shared an update on his recovery from injury from the club’s training camp in the United States.
The 2025/26 season is drawing closer and Manchester United are stepping up their preparations to face Arsenal in the Premier League opener.
United fans have announced plans to protest ahead of the first game in reaction to a new proposal that could see supporters charged £4,000 for a season ticket licence.
Meanwhile, there is optimism in the air about the team once again, with Ruben Amorim’s side securing positive results on pre-season tour. Ineos have also added two quality attacking players to the squad following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
It remains to be seen if United will make more signings, but fans will also be interested in hearing when players like Lisandro Martinez will return to full fitness and action.

Lisandro Martinez takes major step forward in recovery
Martinez is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear he suffered this year.
The 27-year-old is now on the road to recovery as United gear up to improve on a dismal Premier League season.
Amorim’s defence is looking strong after conceding just two goals in three pre-season friendlies, but the addition of Martinez would be a welcome one. He is one of the best defenders in the Premier League when fully fit.
Even as a centre-back, sat in the heart of defence, Martinez previously had a huge influence over United’s attacking players with his passing often finding holes in the final third.
Martinez travelled with United’s first-team squad to the US this summer, despite being unlikely to feature in any of the games. New pictures show that the World Cup winner has returned to training on the grass, which means he is getting closer to a return.
The fiery defender took to Instagram after a recent training session to provide an update for his fans. He wrote: “Taking steps towards the objective.”
The objective is a return. Everyone is excited to see Martinez back on the pitch for United, even if it remains to be seen who will drop out of the defence.
Competition for places at Man Utd
The return of Martinez will create a selection headache for Martinez, but the type of selection headache that is welcomed by football managers.
It signals the quality United have in defence. That wasn’t evident last season but those were early stages of Amorim’s reign, and there is reason to believe things will improve next term.
Ayden Heaven, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire will be battling for their places in the team when Martinez returns from his long spell out.
Yoro is perhaps the safest defender from that quartet, but the other players have plenty of time to convince Amorim they are also worthy of a spot in the line-up.
It’s healthy to have competition for places.
