Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez sent a clear-cut message to one Argentina teammate after his country’s triumph at the 2024 Copa America on Monday.
Lisandro Martinez and Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho were both away from Old Trafford on international duty for this summer’s Copa America.
The 26-year-old United defender has played a starring role in Argentina’s Copa America title defence and impressed with his consistency over the tournament.
Martinez played all but one of Argentina’s matches at the 2024 Copa America in the United States, with the former Ajax star emerging as an impervious defensive figure.
Argentina did not concede once at the Copa America when Martinez was on the pitch, with manager Lionel Scaloni relying on the United star’s superb abilities.
Martinez did not play in the final Group A match against Peru due to Argentina already securing their place in the knockout rounds of the Copa America.
But the 2022 World Cup winner excelled over the course of the competition, including finding the back of the net in the quarter-final win over Ecuador.

Martinez sends message to Argentina star
Argentina star Lisandro Martinez played the full 120 minutes in the 1-0 Copa America final win over Colombia at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
Martinez’s season at Old Trafford was disrupted by injuries, but the Manchester United star appeared to be back to his best while on international duty.
Lionel Scaloni’s men were unable to find the breakthrough against Colombia until the second half of extra time, with Lautaro Martinez breaking the deadlock in the final.
Lautaro Martinez’s strike ensured that Argentina retained the Copa America title, with Scaloni securing his country’s third piece of major silverware in their third consecutive tournament.
United centre-back Martinez struck up a formidable partnership in the Argentina backline alongside Tottenham star Cristian Romero in the Copa America campaign.
Martinez and Cristian Romero have both been widely hailed for their performances and have been key figures in La Albiceleste’s success at the tournament.
Romero took to Instagram after the Copa America final and sent out an emotionally charged message to fans after Argentina’s win over Colombia.
“Two-time champions of America [Argentina]. How crazy this group is. History. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” he wrote, as per a rough translation.
Martinez was spotted in the comments and paid tribute to Romero by posting the message, “Te amo hermano,” which translated to “I love you, brother” in English.

Scaloni on Argentina’s Copa America win
Speaking after the Copa America final, Scaloni praised his team’s performance after they overcame a “very complicated opponent” at the Hard Rock Stadium.
“I don’t know if it marks an era, but it’s true this team never ceases to surprise, they overcame the difficulties of a very difficult match, with a very complicated opponent and without a good first half,” he said, as per Yahoo.
“In the second half, I think we improved and deserved to win and then always in extra time, in the long run, the team always finds something extra, so it’s gratifying to see them play and I’m eternally grateful for the way they give their all.”
