Manchester United announced the deal to sign Lisandro Martinez last week, although are waiting for his unveiling.

Like fellow new signing Christian Eriksen, Martinez is waiting for his visa to be approved, which should be done shortly.

This has meant United fans are still awaiting Martinez’s first interview too, so we can fill the void with a few words from Martinez which foretold a move to the Premier League.

Martinez spoke to Clarin in Argentina at the end of last year and spoke about his fascination with watching football.

‘Addicted to watching football’

Martinez explained: “I am really addicted to watching football matches. I watch everything: the Argentine league, Serie A, Bundesliga, Premier League and La Liga. I don’t miss anything.”

He added that the Premier League was his favourite, “because of the intensity they have.”

Martinez pushed for his move to Old Trafford, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the Argentine pushed specifically for a move to the Premier League.

This should stand Martinez in good stead for his adaptation to England, he will be very aware of what he should expect from his move to England.

He also talked about his versatility, admitting he had played in a position he is probably never going to play in at Manchester United.

He said: “I’ve even played as a winger on the right, look what I’m telling you. It’s a slightly complicated position, but I know it.”

Martinez, 24, will compete as a centre-back and is expected to establish himself as a regular in Erik ten Hag’s side, with United’s other defenders battling to compete with him.

The defender is expected to add a new edge to United’s play, making the team harder to play against and more competitive, while his excellent passing ability will be a very positive factor going forward.
