Manchester United fans are going to have to wait longer before Lisandro Martinez returns to action following a lengthy spell out injured.

Lisandro Martinez is continuing his comeback from an ACL injury that has ruled him out of action since February.

The World Cup winner had surgery earlier this year, and Ruben Amorim has been reluctant to give any specific details on his return.

Amorim has had to arrange his back three without Martinez, who is undoubtedly United’s best defender, for the majority of his time as United head coach. He currently has the following defenders to select from: Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Ayden Heaven.

Even though Amorim has plenty of options in defence, United fans will be eager for Martinez to return to the team.

Lisandro Martinez injury update

Martinez travelled to the US with the rest of United’s first-team on their pre-season tour, but he has not been involved in any matches as he continues his recovery.

The 27-year-old joined United from Ajax in 2022 and became a key player in the heart of Erik ten Hag’s defence during his first season, winning the Carabao Cup.

However, Martinez has been unable to build on his impressive initial season. Injuries have been the biggest reason for that.

Argentine journalist Gastón Edul provided an injury update on Martinez after United suffered defeat in the Manchester derby.

Edul claims Martinez is planning his return for late October or early November, with United planning a patient approach to ensure he can recover properly.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise since Amorim has been notoriously cautious about when he brings players back from injury.

Martinez injuries since joining United

Injuries have proven to be Martinez’s biggest problem at United.

Since moving to Old Trafford, the Argentina international has missed a total of 100 matches due to injury.

Martinez will hope to avoid more injury setbacks when he returns, especially heading into a World Cup year as Argentina will be trying to defend their status as world champions.
