Lisandro Martinez fee and personal terms agreed

Manchester United have agreed a fee and personal terms to sign Lisandro Martinez, report The Athletic.

The deal is just pending an announcement, and Martinez is expected to fly to Australia to link up with his new teammates on pre-season tour.

United are expected to pay £46 million for Martinez, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf stated.

Martinez was kept out of training on Thursday with Ajax keen to avoid any last minute injury to the defender.

Lisandro Martinez fee and personal terms agreed

Martinez will become Manchester United’s most expensive signing of the summer so far, although talks are ongoing for an even bigger deal.

A move for Frenkie de Jong could cost United £72 million. Fabrizio Romano reports a deal is in place with Barcelona, but personal terms have not yet been agreed with the midfielder.

Both De Jong and Martinez have played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax before, but their paths did not cross over, with the midfielder leaving for Barcelona in 2019 in the same summer Martinez arrived.

Martinez is a left-footed centre-back, who can also play in defensive midfield. His idol growing up was Gabriel Heinze.

He last season won Ajax’s player of the season, despite the team scoring 98 league goals in 34 games. Their defensive record saw them concede only 19 goals.

United play Melbourne Victory in the club’s second pre-season friendly on Friday, but it is very possible United also have an announcement to make over Martinez, who would become the second signing of the summer after Tyrell Malacia.

Fans are still awaiting an update on a move for Christian Eriksen, who The Athletic reported in early July had agreed to join United as a free agent.
