Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers praises ‘world class’ Manchester United midfielder Casemiro

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has conducted his pre-match press conference before facing Manchester United on Sunday.

The Foxes have had a clear week to prepare for the game at Old Trafford, while United slugged it out with Barcelona in the Camp Nou last night.

Casemiro played that game, but will be absent this weekend as he serves the final game of his domestic suspension for his red card against Crystal Palace.

Rodgers has hailed the quality of the Brazilian anchorman and was relieved his side would not have to face him at Old Trafford.

When asked for his thoughts on United, Rodgers said: “I look at Man United and see the introduction of new players.

“(Christian) Eriksen, (Lisandro) Martinez, and Casemiro is a world-class player. He’s calm, he has quality. Thankfully for us, he’s suspended.

“He’s given them a stabilising effect. Erik (ten Hag) and his team, they’ve given them good organisation.

“Then they have a collective group. They are up there competing and played a good game last night.”

United have not been at their best in two games against Leeds without Casemiro, but have got four points out of them.

If the two draws against the Whites and Palace in recent weeks had been won, United would be one point behind Manchester City at the top of the table.

Those are the fine margins, although United could not be expected to win every single game playing every three days or so, with a small squad hit by midfield injuries.

Casemiro’s quality was evident last night once again, but it will be Fred and Marcel Sabitzer charged with winning the midfield battle this weekend.
