Manchester United prospect Joe Hugill is looking for clearance to get his loan spell back on track.

Long-time Manchester United academy talent Joe Hugill agreed a loan move to Barnet at the beginning of the season.

But if you have not heard a lot about it, there is good reason. Hugill has been out of action with injury since August and played in only three matches for the club.

Now the young striker is bidding to get approval to return to action and get his season up and running.

Joe Hugill latest

Joe Hugill signed with Barnet on a season long loan, after their promotion from the National League to League Two.

Hugill has been treated by Manchester United’s medical staff, and he is aiming to take an important next step towards getting back on the pitch.

BBC Sport reports: “The forward is hoping to be given the green light to resume contact training by United, which would offer the opportunity to push his claims back at Barnet.”

Barnet manager Dean Brennan had high hopes for Hugill, comparing his qualities to two former Premier League stars.

Brennan said: “He’s got pace, excellent finisher, very dynamic, we want him to look down the barrel of the goal.

“He’s such an exciting player, he’s like a Jamie Vardy, Michael Owen type.”

Barnet have not seen any of this yet, with Hugill playing only 239 minutes without scoring, before his injury. He also missed a penalty in a shootout defeat.

Joe Hugill needs some good fortune

Last season Joe Hugill began the season with Wigan Athletic in League One, before this loan was cancelled and he signed another loan, with Carlisle United in League Two.

Barnet are currently placed 11th in League Two, but have only scored 20 goals in 16 games, so there may be an opportunity for Hugill to earn a spot back in their line-up.

Who should start as striker for Man Utd with Benjamin Sesko injured?

Hugill needs this loan to be a success for the sake of his future career options. He is 22 and his contract at Manchester United expires in June.

Once prolific in United’s academy, his various loan spells, also at Burton Albion, have failed to propel his career forward.

A strong injury-free second half of the season can improve his prospects. Here’s hoping.
